You may have asked yourself, “Who are the elect in the Bible? And how do I know if I am one of them?” Understanding who the elect are helps us recognize our place in God’s eternal plan. According to Scripture, God’s elect are many things, each revealing their unique role in the unfolding of His kingdom.
Romans 8:33 “Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.“
God’s elect are those whom the Lord Himself has chosen. They are not only kings and priests but also spiritual beings whom the heavenly realm identifies as angels. The Bible describes them as saints—the holy ones of Israel. These elect individuals serve as hosts in the spiritual world, ascending Mount Zion as sons of God and forming the spiritual tribe of Judah. Most importantly, they carry the testimony of Jesus and represent the blood of Christ. If you understand and share in these attributes, then you are among God’s elect. However, even if you don’t see yourself in all these descriptions, take heart. As a believer in Jesus Christ, you are still a child of God and a member of spiritual Israel. Together with the saints, you are part of the greater body of the elect.
Colossians 1:12 “Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.“
The Saints: Our Elect Brothers and Sisters
God calls us not just to recognize the saints but to serve and minister to them. The elect are our spiritual family, and one of our God-given assignments is to care for them. Our lives should reflect this mission of service—not only to the saints but also to one another—so that God’s kingdom may visibly manifest on Earth.
Hebrews 6:10 “For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.“
As fellow believers, we are no longer outsiders. God has brought us into His household as members of His family alongside the elect. In this family, each person has a role and a purpose, and together we share in God’s promises.
Ephesians 2:19 “Therefore you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household…“
The Sons of God: The Elect Revealed
God identifies His elect as His sons. And while the elect hold a special calling, believers who have received the Spirit are also considered sons of God. We share this inheritance with them, waiting for the full adoption and redemption of our bodies.
Romans 8:23 “Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.“
Jesus calls these sons His brothers. Serving them and caring for them is equivalent to serving Christ Himself. Our love for Him becomes evident in how we treat His elect.
Matthew 25:40 And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’
The glory that will be revealed in the sons of God surpasses the suffering of this present world. Creation itself longs to see these sons—these elect—rise into their full identity.
Romans 8:18–19 “I consider that our present sufferings are not comparable to the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the revelation of the sons of God.“
The Elect Angels: Spiritual Beings in God’s Household
The Bible also refers to the elect as angels in the spirit realm. These are not just heavenly beings, but also the souls of the saints who, once resurrected, live in the likeness of angels. They do not marry, nor are they given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
1 Timothy 5:21 “I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels…“
Matthew 22:30 “For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.“
When the elect depart from their physical bodies, they enter their eternal roles in the spiritual realm, joining the ranks of the angelic hosts who serve before God.
Mount Zion: The Dwelling Place of the Elect
God’s salvation flows from Zion, and His elect will be gathered there in the last days. Scripture clearly states that the Deliverer will come out of Zion and bring redemption to Israel. The elect, specifically the 144,000 Israelites, will take their place on Mount Zion with the Lamb, bearing the name of the Father.
Romans 11:26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;”
Revelation 14:1 Then I looked and saw the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him 144,000 who had His name and His Father’s name written on their foreheads.
These elect are not just a symbolic group. They are the very deliverers whom the prophet Obadiah spoke of, those who will help establish the Lord’s kingdom and judge the spiritual mountains of Esau.
Obadiah 1:21 “Deliverers will go up on Mount Zion to govern the mountains of Esau. And the kingdom will be the LORD’s.“
They also represent the sprinkled blood of Christ, and their testimony stands in contrast to the blood of Abel.
Hebrews 12:24 “To Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.“
Kings and Priests in God’s Kingdom
The elect are more than just worshipers; they serve God as priests and offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable through Christ. As living stones, they form a spiritual house where God dwells. Their identity as kings is also prophesied—God has installed His king on His holy mountain.
1 Peter 2:5 “You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.“
Psalm 2:6 “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.“
The elect fulfill both royal and priestly roles, serving God in both worship and rulership. They are the framework of God’s kingdom on Earth.
The Elect in the Last Days
In the time of great tribulation, the elect will play a central role in God’s plan to save humanity. The days of suffering will be shortened—not for the world’s sake, but for the sake of the elect whom God has chosen. Their presence on Earth ensures the preservation of life itself.
Mark 13:20 “And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect’s sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.“
Yet, because of their allegiance to Christ and the power of their testimony, the elect will suffer persecution and spiritual attacks. They remain targets of demonic oppression, but God will not ignore their cries. He promises to defend and rescue them.
Luke 18:7 “Will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry out to Him day and night? Will He continue to defer their help?“
Conclusion: Living as the Elect of God
In conclusion, the elect of God are His chosen ones—His saints, sons, kings, and priests. They dwell on Mount Zion and represent the blood of Christ. They serve as spiritual hosts in the heavenly realm and play vital roles in God’s redemptive plan for humanity. As fellow believers, we participate in this sacred calling when we minister to them and live in love. This is how we spiritually “wash our robes in the blood of the Lamb” and take part in the inheritance prepared for the saints.
This is it for now, beloved brethren. I pray this teaching has brought you clarity and deeper understanding about who the elect are in God’s eyes. May it strengthen your walk with Christ and renew your faith in His calling for your life. Let me leave you with this verse as a final reminder of our fellowship in the light:
1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.“
