How to exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees?

According to our Lord Jesus Christ, we must exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees to enter God’s kingdom.

Matthew 5:20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

But how do we exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and the Pharisees? It would seem like an impossible feat for a regular person.

The scribes and Pharisees are knowledgeable about God’s laws, customs, and traditions of God’s people. Additionally, they are the ones who teach the Word of God to people. So, How can regular believers exceed their righteousness?

The simple answer to this is found in verse below.

This was when Jesus Christ was confronting the scribes and the Pharisees for their hypocrisy:

Matthew 23:13 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

What Jesus was trying to convey here was that the scribes and the Pharisees were hindering people from entering the kingdom of God by putting obstacles in their way. They were making it hard for people to enter the kingdom of God and they themselves do not want to enter because of the harsh treatment that those who are trying to enter have to go through.

Therefore, in order to exceed the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees, as believers, we must allow those who are in the position to enter the kingdom of God to be able to enter. We can do this by ministering and helping them get there by giving them protection and providing for their needs.

Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

That’s it for this blog, my friends, I hope that somehow I have enlightened you on how to exceed the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees. Until next time, May God bless you!
