In the Beginning: The Prophetic Word

Last updated on August 10, 2025

From the dawn of creation, God sent forth a message that defines the very core of our existence. This message, this divine utterance, has been preserved in the Scriptures and echoed through time by the Spirit. It is the foundational truth upon which all reality rests. The Apostle John proclaimed it clearly:

1 John 1:5 – “And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.”

This is the prophetic Word that was spoken in the beginning:

Genesis 1:3 – “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”

This divine command—”Let there be light”—was not only a creative decree; it was the first revelation of God’s glory to creation. This was the message we heard from the beginning, and it remains the message we must proclaim today.

The Word That Became Light

As we examine the opening of the Gospel of John, we gain deeper insight into what that light represents. The Word was not only with God—it was God. Through this divine Word, all things came into being. This Word was full of life, and that life was the light of men.

John 1:1-5
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. … In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”

From this, we understand that the Word produced the Light. The Word that God spoke in the beginning radiated light, and that light is the Son—our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Son Is the Light of God

When God declared “Let there be light,” He begot His Son. Not in flesh, but in divine radiance. The Son emerged as the very image of the invisible God—the firstborn over all creation. He existed before anything else was made.

Colossians 1:15 – “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.”

In this Light—the Son of God—God chose us. He predestined us to be with Him, even before the foundation of the world. That moment of divine light was not just a creative event—it was the beginning of God’s redemptive plan. God had already seen us in His Son, and He purposed us to share in that same light.

Chosen Before Time Began

Ephesians 1:4 – “For He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in His presence. In love.”

This means that before time had form and history had meaning, God chose us. He foreknew us and predestined us to be conformed to the image of His Son. He did not choose us to live in darkness but to shine—to become part of the light that was with Him from the beginning.

Romans 8:29 – “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son…”

And because we were chosen to reflect His light, God caused His light to shine in our hearts—so we might understand the glory of His plan, fully revealed in the face of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:6 – “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

The Prophetic Word Confirmed

We live in a world where darkness often seeks to suppress the truth. Yet God reminds us to hold fast to the prophetic Word, because this Word continues to shine. It is not a relic of the past; it is a light that grows stronger until the full day comes.

2 Peter 1:19 – “We have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.”

Just as God spoke light into the chaos at the beginning, He is still sending light into the hearts of believers today. This light is not random—it is part of God’s eternal wisdom, destined for our glory before time began.

1 Corinthians 2:7 – “No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.”

The Glory of God Is Light

God did not choose us for darkness. He called us to share in His glory. He called us to walk in the light, to live in it, and to carry it to the ends of the earth. This glory is not hidden—it is made known through His Son and now dwells within us.

Ephesians 5:8-9 – “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. For the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.”

God desires that we expose the works of darkness, not join in them. As His light fills our lives, we become vessels through which others may also come to know the truth.

Awake, O Sleeper—Let Christ Shine on You

The Apostle Paul gave a prophetic exhortation to the Church—one that still applies to us today:

Ephesians 5:14
“Wake up, O sleeper,
rise up from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

This is more than poetry. It is a spiritual call to awaken from slumber and step into the reality of who we were created to be—children of light, called to shine in a dark world.

Conclusion: Let There Be Light—In Us

From the very beginning, God spoke a message that continues to reverberate through all of creation: “Let there be light.” That light became flesh in the Lord Jesus Christ — the Light. It shined into the darkness and now shines in us.

God has chosen us before the foundation of the world—not for shadows but for glory. He destined us to walk as sons and daughters of light. He desires that we carry that light forward, testifying to His wisdom, His truth, and His eternal love.

So, dear friends, let us rise. Let us walk as children of the light. And may Christ shine on you always.

May God bless you, and may His light continue to lead your path. Feel free to share your thoughts, questions, or testimonies in the comment section below.
