When the disciples asked the Lord Jesus how to pray, He gave them what we now call The Lord’s Prayer. In it, He revealed not only a model for prayer but also the core of God’s will for humanity and creation:
Matthew 6:9-10
“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.’”
This line makes one thing unmistakably clear: God’s will is for His kingdom to come to earth, just as it already exists in heaven. If you’ve never considered this connection before, I encourage you to take a closer look. The Lord Jesus Himself made it clear: the fulfillment of God’s will centers on the arrival of His kingdom.
God’s Purpose Revealed in Christ
Apostle Paul also echoed this divine intent when he explained the mystery of God’s will through Christ:
Ephesians 1:10
“…to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.”
Clearly, God is working toward a singular purpose: to reunite heaven and earth under the rule of Christ. This reveals the redemptive plan of God—to reestablish divine order and harmony through His kingdom.
The Spiritual Nature of the Kingdom
Although the kingdom of God will manifest as a physical government in the future, the Lord Jesus informed us that the kingdom is already a reality in the spiritual realm:
Luke 17:20-21
“The kingdom of God will not come with observable signs. Nor will people say, ‘Look, here it is,’ or ‘There it is.’ For you see, the kingdom of God is in your midst.”
When the Lord Jesus said this, He was referring not only to Himself but also to the spiritual realm, where the kingdom of God already exists. The Lord Jesus is the king and the light of that kingdom, and through Him, we gain access to its reality.
John 8:12
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Apostle Paul understood this truth when he reminded believers that we have been called into a realm far above the physical:
Colossians 1:12
“…the inheritance of His holy people in the kingdom of light.”
This “kingdom of light” stands in direct opposition to the kingdom of darkness. And yes, my friends, a spiritual war is already underway between these two realms.
Why the World Resists the Kingdom
Although God’s kingdom is already active in the spiritual realm, the world remains blind to it. This is because the world does not understand, acknowledge or accept the spiritual truths that found in the Spirit realm.
John 14:17
“The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him…”
Humanity has largely replaced spiritual discernment with science and human reasoning. As a result, the systems that govern the world do not reflect God’s will. They exclude the Spirit, denying the spiritual dimension of life and existence.
The Manifestation of the New Jerusalem
However, God’s plan is not static. He intends to bring His kingdom from the spiritual realm into full manifestation on the earth, through Christ and His people. The day is coming when the systems of this world will be overtaken by the system of God:
Revelation 11:15
“The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”
This future kingdom is often called the New Jerusalem, a prophetic symbol of God’s system of righteousness and peace. Scripture gives us a glimpse of how it will come into place:
Isaiah 2:2
“In the last days, the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains… and all nations will stream to it.”
Light, Law, and Zion
The prophets of old spoke of a day when nations would flock to God’s light and submit to His ways. These prophecies clearly point to Zion—God’s spiritual government—as the seat of this coming kingdom.
Isaiah 60:3
“Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.”
Revelation 21:24
“By its light the nations will walk, and into it the kings of the earth will bring their glory.”
Isaiah 2:3
“For the law will go forth from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”
This is not an abstract idea. These verses describe the very real spiritual transformation that will take place as the New Jerusalem—the spiritual system of God—takes root in the hearts of people and nations.
God’s Chosen People and Their Role
God has chosen a people to receive and manifest this kingdom. These people were predestined from the foundation of the world to walk in the light and proclaim His truth.
1 Peter 2:9
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people…”
Their purpose is to bring others out of darkness into God’s marvelous light. Paul confirmed this calling when he wrote:
1 Thessalonians 2:12
“That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto His kingdom and glory.”
Those who embrace the gospel of truth will become active participants in fulfilling God’s will here on earth.
Conclusion: Seek First His Kingdom
God’s will is not a mystery. It is boldly declared in the prayer Jesus taught us: “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Our responsibility as believers is to seek His kingdom, walk in the light, and prepare the way for His reign. As the psalmist beautifully said:
Psalm 25:14
“The secret of the LORD is with them that fear Him; and He will shew them His covenant.”
Friends and brethren, I hope this post has brought clarity and insight about God’s will and His coming kingdom. If this message speaks to your spirit, I encourage you to reflect, pray, and walk in His truth. Let us prepare the way for the New Jerusalem.
