The Parables Of Jesus: The Ten Virgins

Last updated on March 6, 2024

Our Lord Jesus Christ gave us a parable that likened the Kingdom of Heaven to ten virgins:

The Parable

Matthew 25:1 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.

6“And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ 7Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.

11“Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’

12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’

13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

What people are saying

There are countless explanations for this parable that you can read online. Most interpretations I have read so far are trying to explain this parable in a general sense; they are mainly stressing the point of the need to “always be prepared” for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Although always being prepared for the coming of the Lord is a good thing, there are more details in this parable that are often overlooked. Those details are what I will share with you here.

The Meaning of the symbology

The ten virgins are ten churches.

The ten churches are also the ten lamps in this parable.

The oil represents the spirit.

The bridegroom is the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Explanation

There will be ten churches that will proclaim the Lord Jesus Christ in the last days, but only half of them will have “the spirit” that will enable them to take part in the “wedding of the lamb“.

The Oil

Therefore, the main point of this parable is the “oil,” which represents the “spirit”.

In fact, the churches (virgins) must have oil for their lamps. They need to have their lamps burning and shining (light of the world) when the Lord comes in order for them to become married to the Lord.

The Spirit

So the question is, how can the churches have the spirit?

My friends, some of you may find this explanation controversial. And in order to understand this explanation, one must be aware of the spiritual realm.

Actually, the oil (spirit) that the churches (virgins) need in order to be part of the wedding of the lamb (coming of the Lord) will be in the form of “sleeper kings”.

Sleeper Kings (The Elect)

You see, when a congregation elects a saint, that person will be spiritually awakened, and he will see the light.

Ephesians 5:14 Therefore He says:

“Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.”

And when the elected saint becomes the king and the priest of a church, that church will have “oil” for its lamp.

In fact, the elect saints have a lot to do with the fulfillment of this parable.

Ephesians 1:18 I ask that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know the hope of His calling, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints.

Moreover, the church with a king will be in the realm of Mount Zion: “the light of the world, a city on top of a mountain that cannot be hidden”.

Mount Zion is the kingdom of God.

Colossians 1:12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.

The “elect” saint (king and priest) of the church will embody the spirit of truth. Therefore, we need to listen to what he is saying.

1 John 4:6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this, we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

The church, with a king as its priest, will walk in the truth. It will have its lamp burning. This is how believers will be saved.

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Furthermore, the people who will help minister to the saints will become part of the kingdom of God. They will also inherit all the blessings that God has promised to those who love Him.

Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

Additionally, the saints will then marry Mount Zion, which is “the church.”

Isaiah 62:5 For as a young man marries a virginSo shall your sons marry you; And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, So shall your God rejoice over you.

The saints will be considered brothers by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 25:40 And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’

Moreover, the churches that have elected their saints will be able to inherit the land when the time comes because they already have the required structure to inherit God’s kingdom here on earth.

Therefore, the churches can have the right structure by electing “kings” as their leaders. This is how the churches can get ready for the wedding of the lamb.

The Land will be married to the Lord during the wedding of the lamb.

Isaiah 62:4 It will no longer be said to you, “Forsaken,” Nor to your land will it any longer be said, “Desolate”; But you will be called, “My delight is in her,” And your land, “Married”; For the LORD delights in you, And to Him your land will be married.

Conclusion

This is the subject of this parable. The wedding of the lamb will take place when Jesus Christ arrives, and the churches (virgins) with kings (oil) will inherit the land.
