Jude 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
Many read this verse and assume that the archangel Michael and the devil were contending over the physical body of Moses. However, through the insight God has granted us by the knowledge of the Scriptures, we understand that this may not be the case. The body of Moses represents something far deeper—something spiritual in nature.
Through the Scriptures, God has revealed that those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, are made members of His body—the body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
The verse clearly reveals that the body of Christ consists of people—those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. It serves as a spiritual symbol, not a literal one, representing the collective unity of believers in Him.
Likewise, the body of Moses can be understood in a similar way. It represents those who continue to follow the law given to Moses by God—those who uphold the Torah and practice the faith and traditions of Judaism.
Therefore, the archangel Michael and the devil were contending not over the physical body of Moses, but over what it symbolized—Judaism. The “body of Moses” serves as a symbolic reference to those who adhere to the laws of the Torah and practice the Jewish faith.
That is it for now my friends. I hope you’ve learned something from this post. Until next time, let your light shine!
