What Is The Light?
There is a real phenomenon in the spiritual realm that centers on “the Light”. But what exactly is the Light? Why does it stand at the very core of spiritual reality for people on earth? And why does Scripture describe the Light as the King? These questions may sound strange or even confusing to those who remain spiritually asleep. Yet the Bible reveals that the Light is not just symbolic—it is a living reality that actively shapes the spiritual condition of humanity.
The Bible as Our Source of Truth
To understand this mystery, we must return to the source of divine revelation: the Word of God. The Bible does not merely hint at this phenomenon—it explains it clearly because this is exactly what Scripture was given for. The Apostle Paul describes it this way:
“This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.”
(1 Corinthians 2:13)
Paul makes it clear that spiritual realities cannot be explained by human wisdom. They require Spirit-taught words that uncover the truth of what lies beyond what we can see with our physical eyes.
Understanding Requires Spiritual Eyes
In order to grasp the depth of this “Light” phenomenon, a person must awaken spiritually. Without the Spirit, people remain blind, unable to comprehend the will of God. Paul writes:
“The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.”
(1 Corinthians 2:14)
When people stay asleep to the Spirit, they cannot see what God has made plain in His Word. To them, the truth sounds foolish. But when the Spirit opens their eyes, they recognize the Light for what it truly is—the very presence of God.
The Testimony of John the Baptist
The Light is the Son of God, and He embodies the very Spirit of God Almighty. The prophet John the Baptist, through the Spirit of the Light in him, faithfully bore witness to this truth. Scripture records it clearly: “There came a man who was sent from God. His name was John. He came as a witness to testify about the Light, so that through him everyone might believe. He himself was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light” (John 1:6–8).
The Lord Jesus later confirmed the role of John the Baptist as a witness to the Light and to the truth revealed through the Spirit. He told the people, “You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth” (John 5:33). The Lord Jesus even described John in vivid terms: “John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you were willing for a season to bask in his light” (John 5:35). John’s testimony shone brightly, but it always directed others toward the Son of God, the true Light who gives life to the world.
The Son of God, The Light
Although the Prophet John testified to the Light shining through him, the Lord Jesus Christ bears a far greater testimony, for He is the true Light. Jesus declared, “But I have testimony more substantial than that of John. For the works that the Father has given Me to accomplish—the very works I am doing—testify about Me that the Father has sent Me” (John 5:36).
In Christ, every prophecy concerning the Light finds its complete fulfillment. He affirmed this truth when He said, “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in Me should remain in darkness” (John 12:46).
The King
The Spirit, who is both the Light and the truth, also reigns as the King. This is not just an idea but a spiritual reality in the unseen realm. It reflects one of the defining characteristics of the Spirit of the Son. The believers, who are chosen, often find themselves accused of being kings in the spiritual realm, yet what they truly do is testify to the Spirit of the Son who dwells within them. The Lord Jesus Himself confirmed this reality during His exchange with Pontius Pilate.
“You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me” (John 18:37). Jesus revealed that His kingship was inseparable from His mission to bear witness to the truth. His authority did not rest on earthly power but on the eternal reality of the Spirit and the truth He carried from the Father.
Yet we must see clearly that the Lord Jesus alone is the true King, for He is the Son of God. He does not merely hold a title; He reigns as the King of kings. And in His divine grace, He extends His reign to those who believe in Him. Through His Spirit, He qualifies them to share in His kingship. As the book of Revelation declares: “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen” (Revelation 1:5–6). In Him, believers take part in this royal calling, reflecting His glory as kings and priests in the spiritual realm.
A Call to Awaken
The Light is real, alive, and central to our spiritual existence. It is the presence of God revealed in the Spirit, guiding humanity toward truth, righteousness, and eternal life. Yet only those who wake up spiritually can truly perceive it.
So I ask you today—are you awake to the Light, or do you still wander in the shadows of darkness? The decision rests in your hands. You can choose to remain in the gloom of this world, or you can open your heart to the Spirit of God and step into His marvelous Light. When you seek His Word and embrace His truth, His Light will shine through you with power and clarity. Let the King of Glory not only guide your path but become the very source of your life, filling you with His presence and establishing His reign within you.
Do not let the noise of the world drown out the voice of the Spirit. Test the spirits, hold fast to what is true, and walk in the Light that shines from Christ Himself. Your spiritual reality depends on it.
