A vision given by God to the Prophet Daniel around 600 BC, which foretold aspects of our world history, is now being understood in a new light. This post provides a brief introduction to a spirit-based interpretation of this vision.
The Ram
Daniel 8:1-4 “In the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar a vision appeared to me—to me, Daniel—after the one that appeared to me the first time. I saw in the vision, and it so happened while I was looking, that I was in Shushan, the citadel, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in the vision that I was by the River Ulai. Then I lifted my eyes and saw, and there, standing beside the river, was a ram which had two horns, and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher one came up last. I saw the ram pushing westward, northward, and southward, so that no animal could withstand him; nor was there any that could deliver from his hand, but he did according to his will and became great.“
According to a spirit-based interpretation of the Prophet Daniel’s vision of “A Goat and A Ram”, the “Ram” symbolizes the realms of Medo-Persia, and can be understood as representing authoritarianism with its two horns signifying absolute monarchy and communism.
“Then I lifted my eyes and saw, and there, standing beside the river, was a ram which had two horns, and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher one came up last. “
Absolute Monarchy
This part of the vision refers to ancient civilizations where authoritarian rulers exercised absolute power. These societies were primarily led by kings, emperors, or pharaohs, all of whom held centralized authority and can be categorized as absolute monarchies. Additionally, absolute monarchy symbolizes one of the “horns” of the ram in this vision.
“I saw the ram pushing westward, northward, and southward, so that no animal could withstand him; nor was there any that could deliver from his hand, but he did according to his will and became great.“
Moreover, these absolute monarchs frequently asserted a divine right to rule, exercising power based on their own desires. This justification prevented anyone from challenging their authority, enabling them to dominate both the ancient and medieval periods. Consequently, as foretold by this vision, the ram “became great.”
Communism
Communism on the other hand is the “higher horn” of the ram that “came up last”.
“..the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher one came up last. “
I will write a separate post about the “higher horn” of the ram that “came up last” which is communism. In it, I will explain why this horn can be linked to the “end times,” when this vision of the Prophet Daniel is expected to be understood and gain relevance.
The Goat
Daniel 8:5-7And as I was considering, suddenly a male goat came from the west, across the surface of the whole earth, without touching the ground; and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes. Then he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing beside the river, and ran at him with furious power. And I saw him confronting the ram; he was moved with rage against him, attacked the ram, and broke his two horns. There was no power in the ram to withstand him, but he cast him down to the ground and trampled him; and there was no one that could deliver the ram from his hand.
Meanwhile, the “Goat” which symbolizes the realm of Greece can be understood as representing the system of democracy. Democracy, after all, started in Greece.
The vision foretold that although authoritarianism initially dominated, democracy suddenly arose from the West, often without military force, as the spirit of democracy spread across the world, challenging and ultimately toppling authoritarian regimes.
“...suddenly a male goat came from the west, across the surface of the whole earth, without touching the ground.”
The Goat’s Notable Horn
Surprisingly, the “horn of the goat” symbolizes the United States of America.
Why?
The vision itself offers the answer, leading me to conclude that the “horn” of the goat, also known as the “first king of Greece,” represents the United States of America, the leader of the free world, which consists of democratic nations.
Moreover, the United States emerged between two eras of democracy—ancient and modern. This is symbolized by the horn positioned between the eyes of the goat in the vision. The eyes are the symbols for the two eras of democracy.
“and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.“
Furthermore, no other nation champions the cause of democracy as passionately and at any cost as the United States, earning it the title of “the leader of the free democratic world”.
Therefore, I believe, the “horn” of the goat in this vision is the United States of America.
The Vision throughout World History
History reveals that the Prophet Daniel’s vision of “a goat and a ram” has been unfolding right before our eyes.
Please check out my post titled “The Unfolding of the Goat and Ram Vision.” It illustrates how democracy has made significant strides against authoritarianism from ancient times to the present day.
In line with this vision, democracy (the goat) will eventually “break” the powers (the horns) of authoritarianism (the ram). This means democracy will prevail in its struggles against authoritarianism.
“And I saw him (the goat) confronting the ram; he was moved with rage against him, attacked the ram, and broke his two horns. There was no power in the ram to withstand him, but he cast him down to the ground and trampled him; and there was no one that could deliver the ram from his hand.“
Indeed, we can anticipate that most nations currently under authoritarian rule will eventually transition to democracy. Thus, the world is likely to become predominantly democratic in accordance with the vision of the Prophet Daniel.
That’s it for now my friends, May God bless you. Let your light shine!
