God’s Will for You: To Be a King and a Priest
Did you know that it is God’s will for you to become both a king and a priest in His eternal kingdom? This is not merely a symbolic statement or a metaphorical concept—it is a divine calling confirmed by Scripture. God has always intended for His people to occupy positions of both authority and service in His Kingdom. He is preparing a holy people, sanctified through His Word and Spirit, to reign with Christ and minister in righteousness. If you are a believer, then this high calling applies to you. Let us examine the Scriptures that reveal this amazing truth and explore how God shapes His people into a royal priesthood.
A Royal Priesthood in Christ
The Apostle Peter makes this calling very clear in 1 Peter 2:9, where he writes, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” This verse does not describe a future hope only for the distant end times; it speaks to the identity of those who have already been called out of darkness by Christ. If you have received the light of the truth, then you have been chosen to be a part of God’s royal priesthood—a people not just saved, but set apart for rulership and ministry.
Peter continues in 1 Peter 2:5, saying, “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” This process of building implies active formation. God is not only calling you into salvation; He is also forming you into a spiritual structure—a holy dwelling place for His presence, where you offer spiritual sacrifices through Christ. This is the essence of priesthood: to serve before God, intercede for others, and present spiritual sacrifices that please Him.
A Kingdom of Priests from the Beginning
The calling to be both kings and priests did not begin in the New Testament. Even in the Old Testament, God revealed this purpose to His people. In Exodus 19:6, He said to Moses, “And unto Me you shall be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” God always desired that His covenant people reflect His holiness and carry His authority—not only to worship Him but also to represent His rule upon the earth. This was not reserved for a few individuals but intended for the entire nation of Israel, a foreshadowing of what the Church—the body of Christ—would one day become.
Reigning on Earth with Christ
The Book of Revelation gives us even greater clarity. In Revelation 5:10, the saints in heaven declare, “And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.” This promise is not abstract—it is specific, physical, and prophetic. Those who overcome in Christ will rule with Him in the age to come. They will not only reign, but they will also serve as priests—mediating God’s presence, wisdom, and righteousness among the nations.
In Revelation 1:6, we are reminded again, “And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” The glory and dominion belong to God, but He has chosen to share His reign with those He redeems. That is part of our inheritance as co-heirs with Christ.
The First Resurrection and the Reign of the Saints
The promise reaches its fullness in Revelation 20:6: “Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection! The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him for a thousand years.” This verse affirms both the authority and the sanctity of the resurrected saints. They are not merely saved souls in heaven, but priests and rulers actively participating in the government of Christ during the millennial reign.
Those who share in the first resurrection will not face judgment but will instead serve God with intimate access and govern in righteousness over the earth. This is the reward prepared for those who remain faithful, who overcome the darkness, and who allow themselves to be transformed by the Spirit and the Word.
Conclusion: Embrace Your Calling
So, brothers and sisters in Christ, do not take your calling lightly. God is not only saving you—He is preparing you for a future that involves eternal service and divine authority. You are being formed into a royal priesthood, a holy people, a spiritual house built for God’s glory. As you walk in obedience and grow in faith, God continues to shape you into the image of His Son—so that you may reign with Him and minister in His name.
I will share more on this profound topic in future writings. Until then, I pray that the Holy Spirit opens your understanding and strengthens your resolve. Stand firm in your faith and embrace the honor God has prepared for you. May the Lord bless you and guide you into your full inheritance as kings and priests in His everlasting Kingdom.
