Where is Mount Zion?

Throughout the New and Old Testament,  Mount Zion is mentioned numerous times. How come the Bible always mentions Zion and Mount Zion as important topics in prophecies and of God’s grand plan? Where exactly is Mount Zion and how can we find it?

Spiritual Meaning

Zion and Mount Zion are used interchangeably in the Bible to refer to the city of Jerusalem.

However, when the Bible is using Zion or Mount Zion to refer to Jerusalem, it is not referring to the physical location of the city of Jerusalem that is located in the modern-day nation of Israel.

Instead, the Bible is referring to a spiritual realm. It is pointing to the spiritual counterpart of the physical city of Jerusalem. It is a spiritual place.

Hebrew 12:22  “But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem..”

The verse above tells us that Mount Zion is not a physical location but a spiritual place.  Understanding what it is, is more important than trying to find where it is.

The Cornerstone in Zion

Jesus Christ is the cornerstone in Zion. The Living One. He is the author of the life that we now have in him. He is our light.

In Isaiah 28:16,  “So this is what the Lord GOD says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; the one who believes will never be shaken.”

And in Romans 11:26, “and in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written: “The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.”

1 Peter 2:4 says,  “As you come to Him, the living stone, rejected by men but chosen and precious in God’s sight, you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

Mother Of Our Spirit

Apostle Paul further explained how Mount Zion is our mother.

Galatian 4:23 “But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.”

Through our rebirth in the Spirit, we have come to know her.

Jesus Christ said in Mark 3:35 “Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”

And in Psalm 87:5 “And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her.”

Those who understand the truth and do the will of God are members of God’s congregation in Spirit.

The Light Of The World

Our Lord Jesus Christ gave a parable about Mount Zion in Matthew 5:14  “Ye are the light of the world. A city set upon a mountain cannot be hid.”

The “city set on the mountain” is Mount Zion. It is a congregation of believers who are gathered in the Spirit that shines as a light of the world.

Apostle Paul explained that on Mount Zion can be found the Church of the firstborn and the spirits of righteous people made perfect.

Hebrews 12:23  “to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,

In Psalm 74:2 King David wrote, “Remember thy congregationwhich thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritancewhich thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.”

Apostle Peter also explained how God took the believers out of darkness and into the light.

1 Peter 2:9  “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

And Apostle John tells us how it’s done.

1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

The Tribe Of Judah

Mount Zion is a congregation in spirit and is considered by God as the spiritual tribe of Judah and part of his dominion Israel.

Psalm 78:68 “But He chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which He loved.”

Apostle Paul tells us who the spiritual Jews are.

Romans 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

John 4:22 “Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.”

And in Psalms 125:1 “Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion. It cannot be shaken; it remains forever.”

Psalm 84:7   “They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.

Gates Of Zion

Jesus Christ, the lion of the tribe of Judah, is the gate to the kingdom of God, Mount Zion- the heavenly Jerusalem.

Psalm 84:5  “How blessed is the man whose strength is in You, In whose heart are the highways to Zion!”

Psalm 87:1-3  Psalm of the sons of Korah. A Song. His foundation is on the holy mountains.  The LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are ascribed to you, O city of God.  Selah…

Jesus Christ is the gate to the City of God.

Jesus said in John 10:9, “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.”

He also said in  John 10:2, “But the one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.”

The 144,000 Israelites

According to apostle Paul in Romans 8:19 , “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.”

The sons of God mentioned in the verse above are the Israelites. They are the 144,000 saints who will be revealed in these last days.

Revelation 14:1 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.

They will be kings and priests.

And they will shed light on the truth that is in Jesus Christ.

They will rule in God’s kingdom.

Obadiah 1: 21 Deliverers will go up on Mount Zion to govern the mountains of Esau. And the kingdom will be the LORD’s.

Conclusion

Zion or Mount Zion is a spiritual place. It is God’s kingdom. You will find it if you seek the truth.

Jesus Christ said in Luke 17:20, “When asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God will not come with observable signs. 21Nor will people say, ‘Look, here it is,’ or ‘There it is.’ For you see, the kingdom of God is in your midst.”

May God bless you all. I hope that this blog has shed some light on what Mount Zion is about.  I will expand more on this topic in my future blogs.

Thank you, Father. Thank you, Jesus Christ! HalleluYah!
